![]() I bought it completely restored so that I wouldn’t have to do any work on it. At a curb weight of just under 3,000 lbs., the 340 was more than enough to win the majority of races. It routinely beat GTO’s, Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs, and heavier Mopars. ![]() Compared to other 1970 muscle cars, it was a giant killer. Found out it is quite rare being one of approximately 700 made. What’s unique or interesting about this car?ĭon’t see them ever, I’ve had my car in roughly 50 shows and have yet to see one as I’ve described. No aftermarket add ons, is as if purchased right off the showroom floor in 1969. Plum Crazy paint, bumblebee striping, chrome-tipped dual exhausts, Hurst 4 speed transmission, sure grip rear differential, rallye mirrors, hood scoops, 150 mph speedometer, dash-mounted 6,000 rpm tachometer, hood tie-down pins, vinyl hardtop, rallye wheels, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and scat pack emblem. I met with the owner, made the purchase, and had it shipped back to Salt Lake City. It had been professionally restored and I decided to pay the asking price so as not to be nickel and dimed to death in fixing something up. 30 years later while browsing the internet, I found one exactly as I had in the fall of 1969 in Scottsdale, AZ. In 1985 I started searching for another Dodge Dart Swinger as I always enjoyed the car. I sold it when the gas crunch hit in 1973. ![]() ![]() I originally purchased a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger in the fall of 1969 from Menlove Dodge, Bountiful, UT for $2,970.00. What are your future plans with the car?.What’s unique or interesting about this car?.Please note that though the car was photographed with modern radial tires, it will be offered with bias-ply tires. Dodge buyers selected Swinger 340s in this body style for just a single season, as the performance-trim design moved to the fastback Demon 340 in 1971. Stylish and showing 61,570 believed-original miles on the odometer, the two broadcast sheets and owner's manual will be included in this sale. Inside, this Dodge received the black bench seat with headrests, floor-mounted Hurst shifter, performance dash cluster with 150 MPH speedometer and a Solid State AM radio. Chrome exhaust tips exit from beneath the wide rear bumper and new-for-1970 Rallye wheels are the final touch in terms of aggressive appearance. From the outside, one sees the chrome 340 logos on the scoops, the Swinger emblems mounted below the quarter windows and chrome drip-rail moldings. Behind it is the factory 4-speed transmission and 8 ¾ differential. This came standard in 1970 with a 4-barrel carburetor, 10.5:1 compression and high-flow exhaust manifolds. Under the hood is the matching-numbers H-Code 340/275 HP V-8. Documented with two original broadcast sheets, it was formerly part of the Richard Heidbreder Collection. The special car here is unrestored with mostly original E5 Bright Red paint, a black vinyl top, matched black graphics and its original black interior. Marketing this car in 1970 meant twin hood scoops and changes to the rear-quarter metal design that now allowed the “scat stripe” to be angled aligned with the descending roof line the car also featured a new grille. ![]() Showing significant increases in value over the last decade, these unique cars have been exhibiting staying power in the collecting hobby. Muscle for 1970 was a hot commodity, and since the new Challenger was becoming the “sports model,” the Dart Swinger 340 was portrayed as the “economy muscle” of Dodge’s product line. ![]()
